Didn't Get Your Way

November 19, 2003

What a hard question to answer when we pray and it just doesn't go the way our minds thought it would go. We go overboard when things aren't going our way or according to our timing. We push things to the limit and expect immediate results after the damage has been done. In other words, we take the whole situation into our very own hands which includes: thoughts, emotions, what is right in our eyes, and just add to a fire that is already out of control. When are we all going to learn consequences to hurtful problems take time to work themselves out?

Consequences? I say that they are forgiven but the damage we have inflicted has a way of coming around and snapping us where it hurts us the most. What could it be that drives us to destruction? PRIDE! The part of us we hate to admit to which has ruled most of our lives. How many times does it take for us to realize our pride is the most destructive part of our humanity? How are we to win mastery over our human nature and give it over to God’s great surgical skill? He knows our heart, He knows our will, and He knows our emotions. He knows that because we each are created uniquely for His purposes.

The Word of God says: “Trust in the Lord with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding. In all ways acknowledge Him, and He shall direct thy paths.” (Proverbs 3:22)

Let’s take the crucial words in that promise. Trust(confidence, total reliance on God); heart(the very essence of who you are: mind, will, and emotions); lean(your tendency, your bent, your self-will); understanding(your judgment or outlook); acknowledge(to admit God is truth and trustworthy and reliable);direct(to let God have and take control);and path(the course of your life).

God is saying to you: Have your confidence and total reliance on Me your creator. He says, put the very essence of your mind, will, and emotions in my nail scarred hands. Lean on Me for I am the God who cares for you. Trust My judgment for the outlook is life changing. Acknowledge you cannot accomplish what you desire but through Me you can do all things. And last but not least let Me direct the course of your life. You are not alone for I am walking the path of your life with you.

A lot of difficult words to grasp but so easy to lay in His hands. Jesus calls on you today to make this transition from, I, my, mine to His Will be done.
He also promises this: “Cast thy burden upon the Lord, and He shall sustain thee; He shall never suffer the righteous to be moved.” Psalm 55:22

Are you under chains in which you feel like your carrying the weight of life on your back? Cast it upon God for He careth for you. Trust Him as if your very life depended on Him. Acknowledge you cannot do anything without Him providing the path in which you are to travel. And then with confidence celebrate He will carry the burden and not you.

Yes, it is His will to give you the kingdom life.

Praise be to the Lord who gave Himself on our behalf.
