Ruth 1:1-22
Naomi Widowed
The Israelite
family consists of Elimelech, the father; Naomi, the mother;
and two sons. The sons take Moab wives, Orpah and Ruth.
why did the
family move from their home in Judah their home of god to
Moab an ungodly place and how long did they dwell there?
There was a
famine in the land. Naomi, her two sons and their wives Orpah
and Ruth dwelled in Moab about 10 years.
what happened
to Naomi's husband and 2 sons. why did Naomi decide to go
back to her homeland?
Elimelech Naomi's
husband died in Moab. Naomi's two sons took two Moabite women
and married them.(Orpah,Ruth) Then Mahlon and Chilion died
also and Naomi was left with no family except her daughter
in laws. Naomi rose to return from the country of Moab to
Judah because she had heard that our Lord had visited his
people in giving them bread.
have you ever
made a decision to leave god for greener pastures, it hasn't
worked out and returned to god..did it leave you bitter and
resentful? did you blame god?
Yes, when we
first moved back to my home state of California we were encouraged
to get into a church right away or find a new church home.
My aunt and uncle told us not to compare the church where
we were members to the new church God would send us to. Well
we visited many churches and found none that we felt comfortable
in. The very thing we were encouraged not to do we did. So
we decided since we couldn't find a church to raise our children
in that we would train them up in our home. Well, it did not
work out at all for we drifted further and further from being
faithful to our God and his Word. It wasn't years but a year
and half and we found many trials in our lives. We realized
God was showing us to return to Him in which we did and we
have never felt like going on our own journey without the
Lord. We were not bitter or resentful or we didn't blame God
at all. For in that time God revealed to us how much he cared
for us. He provided a job, housing, and even during that time
God saved me from dying. Even though we were not in the church
Our Lord was watching over us and calling us back into the
fold. I praise God for the time we thought we could do it
without Him but realized we could do nothing until we returned
to Him.
Naomi encourages
her daughters-in-law to remain in Moab (1:6-16).
what did Ruth
and orpah decide to do and what act did Ruth display to confirm
her loyalty in vs. 16?
Orpah was weeping
but kissed Naomi goodbye and went back to her people the Moabites
and their gods. But Ruth told Naomi, "entreat me not
to leave thee, or to return from following after thee: for
whither thou goest, I will go; and where thou lodgest, I will
lodge: thy people shall be my people, and thy God my God:
Where thou diest, will I die, and there will I be buried:
the Lord do so to me, and more also, if aught but death part
thee and me."
at what point
in your life were you saved thru your belief in Jesus Christ?
I had been
going to church every since I was married but all the time
I was in church I still had this void in my life. I couldn't
fill it or pray it out. I was an empty pot with no water in
it. The Lord saved me when I came to the point in a revival
that I realized I was lost. The question asked that night
was: "if you were to die tonight, do you know where you
will be?" That night my two children were with me and
they were toddlers. I sat there in shock when I came to the
realization that I was lost and going to hell. In that speck
of a moment I broke down in my heart and was so desperate
I couldn't even speak. I was taken to a counseling room and
we prayed but I was not saved till the next day. I can still
see me on my knees in the Pastor's house and I asked Jesus
to come into my heart and save me and be my Lord. My life
has changed dramatically.
Ruth 2: 1-23
Ruth Gleans in Boaz' Field
Ruth gleans
in Boaz's field and meets him (2:17). who is Boaz?
Boaz was a
kinsman (kinsman redeemer) of her husband Elimelech. He was
a mighty man and wealthy. He was a wealthy landowner in Bethlehem
in Judah.
Ruth finds
favour in Boaz's eyes (2:16).
what characters did Ruth display to find favour in Boaz eyes?
Hard working
woman, obedient servant, thankful heart, stuck by her mother
in law Naomi to help care for her, a virtuous woman, and she
trusted in the Lord God of Israel.
whom do you
think Boaz represents today to offer such protection and provision
to Ruth?
Our Lord and
Savior.
God has done
the same for me in which He saved me and provides for me daily
through: hope, joy, peace, protection (safety), living water,
bread of life, and comfort. God supplies all my needs even
though sometimes I may not recognize all He has provided.
As Boaz cared for Ruth our God care for us.
As Boaz rewarded
Ruth for her hard labor our God rewards us also when we are
faithful and true servants.
Ruth 3:1-18
Boaz Will Redeem Ruth
Identification
of Boaz as KinsmanRedeemer 2:20.
what act did
Ruth do to reveal this to Boaz?
She took Naomi's
advice to go to Boaz, uncover his feet, and lay herself down;
and then he would tell her what to do. Then when Boaz asked
her who she was Ruth said: "I am Ruth thy handmaid: spread
thy skirt over thine handmaiden; for thou art a near kinsman."
When this happened this was symbolic of a pledge of marriage.
So here Ruth recognizes Boaz as her kinsman redeemer.
what is a kinsman
redeemer and who is our kinsman redeemer?
A kinsman redeemer
at this time was responsible for needy family members. He
also in time was to provide an heir of those who had died.
He also would redeem the relative's land from being lost because
of the death of the one who would have kept it safe. A kinsman
redeemer also would redeem any family member sold to slavery.
In all he would even avenge the death of a relative if necessary.
What is so wonderful in all of this is that Naomi saw Ruth
was led by our Lord to Boaz. So in all God redeemed Ruth through
Naomi.
The Son of
God is our Kinsman Redeemer. He saw us as a needy humanity
and covered us with his blood so that we would be saved from
our sins. Yes, the sin of death would not be imparted on us
any longer for our Redeemer Jesus Christ paid the price and
nailed sin to the cross forever more. When I think of what
our Lord gave so that I would no longer be a slave to sin,
I can't help but want to lay at my Savior's feet. When I consider
how his blood covers me I know my redeemer lives. Yes, my
kinsman redeemer is real and he provides, protects, reveals,
fills me, satisfies my longings, and gives me hope for a brighter
day.
Revelation
of a nearer kinsman:12
. what would
have happened to orpah ,the 2nd daughterinlaw had she decided
to follow Naomi and pledge her loyalty to Naomi's God?
She too would
have been redeemed and God would have provided a mate for
her.
Ruth 4:1:22
The Marriage
of Ruth
Boaz assumes the right of redemption (4:12).
Did Boaz pay a price to redeem Ruth and who paid a price for
our redemption?
Boaz bought
all the property of Elimelech from Naomi, Chilion's, and Mahlon's,
Ruth the Moabitess he purchased also to be his wife.
Jesus Christ
paid it in full for our redemption. No more sacrifices, no
more deals, Jesus paid for our salvation in full. He gave
his life so you and I could be free forever and ever....
So Boaz took
Ruth, and she became his wife, and he went in to her. And
the LORD enabled her to conceive, and she gave birth to a
son 4:13
who is this
son and what significance does this have in God' plan for
us?
His name was
Obed who was the father of Jesse, who was the father of King
David. It was through David line that Jesus Christ came into
our world to save sinner's.
here we see
that god has blessed Naomi for returning to him..have you
ever backslidden and have had doors open for you when returning
back to god?
