The gracious way Priscilla
and Aquila dealt with Apollos is an example to us all. They
might have stood up and corrected him publicly -- making him
embarrassed or defensive. Instead they remained quiet in public.
They invited him to their home. They "explained"....more
adequately." Rather than stress where Apollos was wrong,
they affirmed what was right and went on from there. What
a guide to correcting error without losing the person!

1. What
surprises you most when you read Acts 18?
Paul had
traveled from Athens Greece to Corinth and stayed at Priscilla
and Aquilla's house or tent for they all three shared in the
craft of tentmaking. Priscilla I am not sure but she was possibly
Roman or came from Italy while Aquilla was a Jew born in Pontus
of Asia minor. They were Christian workers who traveled sharing
about Jesus Christ. I see that both Aquilla and Priscilla
were church starters wherever they traveled. Paul develops
a close friendship with them. Because of the Jews rejecting
the Gospel of Jesus Paul washes his hands of them and says:
he will preach unto the Gentiles. What is awesome is that
both of them instructed Appollo's. Today you would call them
discipler's or mentors. Paul speaks continuously about Jesus
is the Christ to the Jews. Paul even takes Aquilla and Priscilla
and sails to Syria.
2. What
best illustrates Priscilla and Aquila's virtues as servant-leaders?
Their walk
was their talk. Aquilla and Priscilla opened their home up
to share and be used to share about Jesus Christ. They opened
their lives and went wherever Jesus would be accepted. It
appears they were well grounded in their new faith and took
serious about mentoring others who needed a deeper understanding
of the truths of God. They were ready to pick up and follow
Paul as a leader and share in the caring the Gospel to the
Gentiles.
3. How
do you envision Apollos?
Apollos
was an Alexandrian Jew who came to Ephesus before Paul did.
He had the gift of retoric and he thought before he spoke.
He had a vast knowledge of the Old Testament teachings and
taught with great passion. When he taught in the synogogue
he spoke with boldness and authority that John had taught
him. I see him as a good looking man, persuasive, and gifted.
He definately was teachable because Aquilla and Priscilla
share more about the scriptures testifying that Jesus was
Christ.
4. In their
lives, Priscilla and Aquila encountered Paul and Apollos --
one was a teacher to them and one they taught. Who was one
of your early mentors?
Paul
was their teacher and Apollos was their student.
Whom have
you in turn mentored -- or could you mentor?
Mentoring
to me is a very serious commitment to one you are working
with. I take it not lightly and know that every word I share
or teach or instruct better be the very Word of God. I mentor
young women, single women, married women, women who's husbands
don't attend church, and any woman who desires a closer walk
with our Savior. It is a very serious matter to mentor for
your life must line up to what you teach. Mentoring calls
for consistant self-examination. And we mentor because our
Lord has instructed us to in the Word. I right now have made
a serious commitment to mentor one of our SHC ladys. I pray
that God will use us both for his glory and that we will learn
of his great riches together.
5. What
are the primary gifts God has given you for Christian service?
Teaching,
wisdom, evangelism. Minor gifts are singing for Jesus or encouraging
others to worship the Lord in song.
6. On a
scale of 1 (totally disagree) to 10 (totally agree), how do
you feel about each of the following statements;
a. Women in leadership was acceptable in the New Testament
Church 10
b. Women in leadership is acceptedable in the church today.10
c. God encourages women to be all they can be.10
d. Women can realize their full potential in the church.10
e. Gender doesn't matter; what matters is using our gifts
for Christ.8
Gender
does matter in some leadership roles. So I have to put an
8 because the scripture bears that out. Women are not to ursurp
authority over men and I think that here gender does count.
We must use the gifts God has given us and the church if instructed
right accepts women in leadership as gifted. For our God is
the giver of the gifts and none of us has that ability to
put any man or woman in a position or place if God hasn't
called them. When I saw Henry Blackaby he share we do not
have to convince anybody of our gift for God will reveal it
in His time. So we can as women rest assured if God calls
us He will lead us and reveal that giftedness to others.
7. What
type of role do you have in the church?
Sunday
School Teacher, Women's Bible Study Leader, Praise Leader,
and Prayer Director,
Deacon's
Wife
What role
would you like to have?
I want
to write devotions or a devotional book to encourage men and
women in their faith. I desire to write the deep truths of
the Lord and apply them today.
What keeps
you from that?
It will
take money someday when I do submit a year's devotions for
publishing. I am praying if its God's Will that before I die,
there will be a book that I wrote by the Power of God's Spirit.
I desire to challenge the lukewarm church of today.
8. Priscilla
and Aquilla were a model of partnership in marriage. Regarding
the possiblity of discovering a mate, it's important to you
to find someone....... who not only
knows the Lord Jesus Christ but is faithful in every aspect
of his Christian life. That we will serve the Lord with gladness
and be open to move wherever he leads.(finish this
statement)
9. How
can you as a couple use your gifts to serve God and others?
Grow in
our faith together. Spend time in God's Word together. Reach
out and touch others even if we are not use to opening our
home up. Start a plan to reach out to the ones who desire
to grow up in Jesus. Have a home bible study. I have always
wanted to open my home for a bible study for couples.
How would
finding a ministry or service project in which to share affect
your marriage?
We would
both totally affirm one another and thank God for using us.
My husband is totally supportive as I have even taught him
in a couples group. I am very blessed to have a spouse who
encourages me to grow up in Jesus. I praise God for his love
and unselfish spirit in letting God use me. I feel the same
way about Jerry, wherever God desires him to serve, I am right
by his side.
