We have just
celebrated the resurrection of Jesus Christ. Most of us as
God’s children looked to the cross on which our Lord
gave his life. With his arms wide open for all humanity, he
bestowed on us his mercy.
Mercy is God’s
kind, compassionate, and forgiving heart towards us who sinned
against him. It’s hard to believe that when God turned
his head away from his Son that through his Son’s life
we are set free. Mercy is God’s way of restoring the
repentant sinner to a right standing with God.
In the last
few years I have understood mercy more than I care to say.
For in learning about God’s mercy I too had to practice
the very action he freely gave me. To give mercy at the cruel
acts of the world is a test towards all of us who are named
as God’s beloved.

Ever experienced
an unholy action or words by someone you loved? How hurt you
were? How deep into your soul did it go that caused that wound
from a friend to bring great suffering? Jesus Christ experienced
all the gates of hell prevailing against him. Yes, from the
religious establishment of the day, from his own people, and
even from his own family. He was the lamb led to the slaughter
and he didn’t even strike back. I am amazed how Jesus
Christ had all authority and power and he didn’t misuse
it. He silently was obedient to what God the Father had planned
for our world. He gave himself willingly so that you and I
could have mercy on our sins against God.
Oh, today remember
the mercy God bestowed on you. So when those huge darts of
hell are aimed at you, you can be assured Jesus knows exactly
what you are facing.

Whether it’s
a loved one, a friend, or family who has hurt you remember:
“But I am a like a green olive
tree in the house of God: I trust in the mercy of God for
ever and ever.” Psalm 52:8
“Mercy
and truth are met together; righteousness and peace have kissed
each other.” Psalm 85:10
“For
as the heaven is high above the earth, so great is his mercy
toward them that fear him.” Psalm 103:11
A warning though
to those who misuse the scripture regarding mercy:
“The Lord is merciful and gracious,
slow to anger, and plenteous in mercy. He will not always
chide: neither will he keep his anger for ever.” Psalm
103:8-9
If you wonder
what chide is its: he will not always scold or reprimand mildly.
He will be patient but when he sees his mercy being abused
he will judge with his wrath.
If this disturbs
you it is not meant to hurt but to turn you from self to serving
the living God who is the greatest mercy giver.
I call on all
Christian’s to listen to what our Lord says: “Like
as a father pitieth his children, so the Lord pitieth them
that fear him.” Psalm 103:13
Fear God…
