“Jesus
Is The Gift”
December 17, 2003 I can’t wait for Christmas and as I sit here in my back room every little animal I have is quiet as a mouse. Tonight my mind goes back to the time we started planning what we were going to do for Christmas. Whose house we would visit that day! Sound familiar? We all start running here and there for the big event. Yes, the big event. Santa Claus, reindeer, snow, rain, shopping, the tree, decorations, and just plain wearing ourselves out. But wait: that is not what Christmas is all about. Yes, we Americans have convinced ourselves Christmas is buying ourselves to death. Christmas is about a “gift” freely given to us all. It was in a small town named Bethlehem. A young man and woman rode in for a place to lay their heads for rest. This woman was heavy with child and she was about to give birth. As the wonderful story goes, indeed there was no room in the entire town except the stable at a certain inn. So this young couple made themselves comfortable and through the night a “gift” came that would forever change our world. “And
she brought forth her firstborn son, and wrapped him in swaddling
clothes, and laid him in a manger; because there was no room to them
in the inn.” Now the point is are we going to make room for the “gift” of a lifetime? Or are we going to keep on doing what we have been doing for years? Are we teaching our children of today, present’s are what Christmas is about? Or are we going to start planning on how we can teach them the truth about “Jesus Christ the Gift?” As the holidays approach let us draw close to the real meaning of Christmas. God gave us the most wonderful gift we could ever ask for and we can thank Him by putting Jesus Christ at the center of our life during the holidays. Thank you God for sending your Son to bring light into our world. Thank you Lord that He is the reason we celebrate Christmas. Thank you Lord for giving us the best “gift” on this earth. Thank you for sending your “gift” to us from heaven. I join hand and heart with all my brothers and sisters in Christ that we encourage one another to Celebrate Jesus today and tomorrow and forever… Devotional by MCL copyright 2003-2004
