The Fruit of Meekness
March 3, 2004

Imagine what the world would be like if all of us were patient, humble, and not pushy for our own way. Each day I am tried to toss out humility, passiveness, and submissiveness. Yes, even I am tempted as usual to control my world in which I reside.

Now Jesus said in his Word: “Blessed are the meek: for they shall inherit the earth.” Matthew 5:5

When I meet a meek person in God’s house I am challenged in my life to desire that wonderful fruit within me as permanent resident. Today and at this present date I see God’s people challenging one another for who is holier, more righteous, and who holds highest position. Now when I share this I am not saying the church is a negative place to worship our God. But I can see the trend of the world coming into the church and God’s people are being tempted to operate as the world does in the business world.

My heart has grieved over today’s church because many of them are struggling to do what is right in the Lord’s eyes. Yet, there is that fine thread of the self-righteousness and self-exhortation that is being introduced to the workings of God’s people.

Maybe the church lacks the fruit of meekness? Maybe God is telling us to humble ourselves to His mighty hand and not man’s. Maybe God is revealing to us we do not have submissive hearts to Him and that is why we don’t submit to leadership. I do not consider anyone meek as weak. I consider them to be strong in the Lord and confident in what he would have them do. WOW! Imagine: We are so close in relationship with God that our eyes don’t fix on man. But that our eyes will fix on the One and Only who can move mountains, heal diseases, and heal a church from hell at its back door.

Okay, here I go and I want to be fair! Gentlemen not only ladies of the house are to be meek. “But let it be the hidden man of the heart, in that which is not corruptible, even the ornament of a meek and quiet spirit, which is in the sight of God of great price.” I Peter 3:4
(Ouch!) I see the Lord talking to not only women but men too. In fact our God is talking to the church or his people.
“The meek shall eat and be satisfied: they shall praise the Lord that seek him: your heart shall live forever.” Psalm 22:26 Imagine being so filled with the food from our Lord that we find satisfaction even amid heartache, trials, and suffering?
“For the Lord taketh pleasure in his people: he will beautify the meek with salvation.” Psalm 149:4

Right this minute my faith is being tried and it will take that fruit of meekness to allow the Lord to minister to me. I could push buttons that could cause havoc but I am not willing to belittle myself to where our Lord is shamed. Meekness is another part of God’s wonderful character in which I pray he will fill my life with in the days ahead. Imagine we as the body of Christ allowing meekness to be a garment on our neck. That whoever would come through the doors could see one who is confident in the God of all creation. Imagine, God’s people working with one another with one goal, one purpose, and one mind. Yes, meekness is needed in the church of today.

The world is full of haughty, angry, and know it all’s. But we need that wonderful meekness of Jesus Christ that fills our lives with his “unconditional love.” Jesus was not a weak person; he was the Son of God who willingly gave himself so you and I could inherit a meek spirit.

Jesus Lord and Savior. Who am I but a child who wants to love you, please you, and serve you? You are by jewel above all jewels, you are my crown above all crowns, and you are the King above all kings. Oh, dear Lord help us to grow into mature children who can teach the young to be meek and gentle. Help us to comprehend how you are ever so meek with us when we fail you. Fill us with thy love and power and may we in these days seek thy will and thy ways. Thank you Lord that we can have the ability to put others before ourselves. May we all be servants in thy most precious name. JESUS
Amen..
