"And
the servant of the Lord must not strive; but be gentle unto all men,
apt to teach, patient." 2

Fruit of
Gentleness
Gentleness is kindness and one who exhibits consideration in all things. One who can manage things with a tender hand. One who accomplishes things with a gentle hand. It is helping one another in gradual steps not an onslaught. I think of the wedding in Cana where the wine ran out. I just know people who served it were running around trying to figure what to do as the wine ran out. Jesus mother says to her son, "they have no wine." Jesus in the spirit of gentleness tells her his time has not yet come. John 2:1-10 this was the first miracle of Jesus ministry where he did manifest his glory. Another time when Jesus was gentle was when in Luke 18:15-17: “And they brought unto him also infants, that he would touch them: but when his disciples saw it, they rebuked them. But Jesus called them unto him and said, “Suffer the little children to come unto me, and forbid them not: for of such is the kingdom of God. Verily I say unto you, whosoever shall not receive the kingdom of God as a little child shall in no wise enter therein.” Jesus showed a gentle rebuke to his disciples and he told them why he rebuked them. Oh, if only we as parents could do as Jesus did with our children. Gently rebuke them instead of a harsh punishment. As Jesus is gentle with us, we ought to do the same not only with our children but with the body of Christ. Gentleness is like a breeze that refreshes your body; God’s Word does the same. When we open it and seek our Lord he refreshes our souls with a new teaching or just his wonderful love for us. Gentleness is like the soft touch of a child’s little finger on our cheek or lips. Jesus is that soft touch in the night when we cry out to him in our prayer time. He touches our lips with his power to pray what we ought to. Gentleness is like your little pets staring up at you for a treat or attention. Jesus is the same when we look to him for utter dependence on his transforming grace. Gentleness is a warm cover on your lap when the ice cold nips your toes. Jesus is that power in our daily lives that fills us and empowers us to serve him with boldness. He covers us with his agape love and presence. Gentleness is a tug back on the path when we have strayed. Jesus is the way, the truth, and the life. Gentleness is a whisper away. Jesus is a prayer away from his wonderful presence. Gentle heart, gentle mind, gentle touch, gentle words, gentle teachings, gentle discipline, and gentle spirit are all part of God’s Kingdom. I want it and I pray you want it too. Father we thank you
that when we ask you for gentleness you will impart that part of your
character in our life. Help us to never be hasty in words, actions,
or even thoughts. Lord, we too are your dependant children who need
thy guidance everyday. We desire to crawl up in thy lap and hear your
gentle whisper “I Love You and Died for You and Want You to
Myself.” We want to hear “I desire to reveal all the things
my Father has revealed to me.” Oh, Father help us to be gentle
now and forever.
