A Petition of Protection

Psalm 5

April 29, 2005

As you can see this month I am writing about the Psalms. My favorite promises that seem to meet most of my daily needs or struggles or feelings. The book of Psalm is the place I claim many promises for those I love so I felt led to start from Psalm 1 until I finished the book.

When I was a young girl I had many fears, fears of someone in my bedroom at night, fears of being taken on the street, and just fearful of what the future held for me. Have you ever had those same fears or something close to them? It can be quite debilitating in a life if we don’t know the one who can give us peace.

As I studied Psalm 5 I can see how we too can pray for God’s protection in our lives. “Give ear to my words, O Lord; consider my meditation. Hearken unto the voice of my cry, my King, and my God: for unto thee will I pray. My voice shalt thou hear in the morning, O Lord; in the morning will I direct my prayer unto thee, and will look up.” Psalm 5:1-3

When I commune with the Lord through prayer and knowing he hears my cry and I can look up and find safety. I would not even imagine me trying to handle fear without my God being there to assure me I can look up with confidence that he is protecting me.

God is very aware of our fears and feelings that can rob us of peace. We will never understand his protection until we cry out to him and trust him to do what he says. He understands what brought those fears to our minds and still he plants a hedge around us and we can rest in him.

You and I must understand that God does not find goodness or pleasure in wickedness and he will not allow evil to dwell with us. Satan loves to seek our fear factors and make havoc of our peace but God has promised us protection. “But as for me, I will come into thy house in the multitude of thy mercy: and in thy fear will I worship toward thy holy temple.” Psalm 5:7

So we find sweet peace in the presence of our God and in prayer we seek that place of solitude with the God who cares. As you study Psalm 5 you can see God is very aware of the wickedness of this day and he is our protection.

Study Psalm 5 and see if your life is changed by this precious prayer of protection. Thank God today for how he watches over you in your daily life.

Father we thank you for your wonderful love and mercy. We know Father you hear our cries and we thank you for how you direct our paths. As you place your shield over our lives may we experience you and your abounding love. In Jesus Name AMEN
