Trusting God

Psalm 4

April 22, 2005

Now that we understand confidence in our God we also need to learn to trust the Lord once we have cried out to him. I don’t know how many times prayer should have been first on my list when the world I know is spinning out of control. Today as I listened to the news so much sadness was reported. How can I find my trust in the world when it reports nothing but absolute terror, dying, wars, earthquakes, etc.?

“Hear me when I call, O God of my righteousness: thou hast enlarged me when I was in distress; have mercy upon me, and hear my prayer.” Psalm 4:1

Yes, the world is in distress but I want to be an avenue of hope in God as the one who has mercy upon we who are troubled. Today the news says hopeless but our God is the one who can redeem the world if they would just trust him. But we all see the world inhabitants are heading further and further away from the God who created them and it should stimulate us to trust him more.

“O ye sons of men, how long will ye turn my glory into shame? How long will ye love vanity, and seek after leasing? Selah” Psalm 4:2

Each day as I retire I want to be able to commune with God on his goodness and trust him for the outcome of life as it is. He has taught me to be still and know that he is God and that all things are in his hands. Yes, God is sovereign and he is very aware of our creation and its sufferings. But he also is very aware of those who will not choose to trust him.

No matter what may be going on in the world God will put gladness in our hearts because the Lord has set us apart for his purpose. The one thing we must do is “share Jesus” with everyone we meet. If we are to sacrifice anything it must be our total self, nothing must stand in the way of God reflecting in our person. How else can we share the good news?

“Offer the sacrifices of righteousness, and put your trust in the Lord.” Psalm 4:5
“There be many that say, Who will show us any good? Lord, lift thou up the light of thy countenance upon us.” Psalm 4:5, 6

My prayer is that we who are God’s children will pray to him and ask him to use us in his wonderful plan. May he put gladness in your heart because he has called you by name, may he increase your blessings, and place a hedge of safety around your home.

“I will both lay me down in peace, and sleep: for thou, Lord, only makest me dwell in safety.” Psalm 4:8

Lord Jesus I thank you that you are worthy of all my trust. As you watch our world and its course keep your children safe in thine arms. Help us to be ready to share the hope and peace you have given us. May our hearts truly trust in you no matter what disasters may come our way. Guide each one of us to stand in awe of you our creator. Forgive us Lord when we sin against you and restore us fully. In Jesus Name. AMEN
