Psalm 20

January 4, 2006

Last year passed us by so fast, I couldn’t believe when the holidays came and now they are past. It is 2006 and I never thought I would live this long. God is good to those who trust in Him alone. The world offers so much that entices men everyday. Whether it’s television, radio, billboards, newspapers, or computers, God has a better way to trust in.

In Psalm 20 we are told men trust in many things but the one who trusts in God will not be disappointed. When trouble or trials come upon us just like the floods that came on Northern California this weekend, we either can trust in God and use His wisdom or trust in our own wisdom.

“Send thee help from the sanctuary, and strengthen thee out of Zion ;” Psalm 20:2

We found ourselves praying for our own as they were traveling on the roads during this powerful storm. We ran to God in His sanctuary in prayer and asking Him to plant hedges around our loved ones but also to strengthen us as we waited to hear a word from them.

Isn’t it wonderful to be able to find a promise of God and claim it as your own? It is not difficult to do, you just have to open the Word of God and search the scripture.

Even when our children call us to pray for them I can claim a promise in this Psalm. “Now know I that the Lord saveth his anointed; he will hear him from his holy heaven with the saving strength of his right hand.” Psalm 20:6

Though it may seem that last year was filled with testing not only in our society ... as God’s people we were put to the test on what we trust in. Remember the issues regarding God’s Laws or anything with God’s name on it? Men were willing to take God out of our very lives in government and trust in men alone. Thank God for the faithful who stood up and passed the test. I do not know how long we will have the freedom we have been so blessed with but our God is faithful.

“Some trust in chariots, and some in horses: but we will remember the name of our Lord our God.” Psalm 20:7

That is what life is all about…trusting in God and not man. I cannot even trust myself much less man to determine my future.

Whether it’s a trial in your marriage, family, church, or country…it is better to trust in God than anything the world offers.

As you approach the New Year may God bless you and keep you in all your endeavors. May His face shine upon you as you draw close to him and trust him.

Lord thank you for all the lessons last year in our lives, we recognize many were not easy but Lord you were there all the time. Guide us as your children to trust in you alone. In Jesus Name. AMEN
