Psalm 17 December 4, 2005
The other day I had went to a mall close to our house. As I was driving into the parking lot I saw this young man parked close to another car. As I passed him by he was working on the tires of that car. Well to make a long story short, when I came out of the mall and drove past the car he was working on, there sat the car without back tires. This person had taken the property of someone who at that time didn’t even know it.
As I read Psalm 17 I can really relate to David’s crying out to God to be protected against the oppressors of his day. Today we have the same issues as David. There are those who would destroy all the hard work in a person’s life without even having any guilt.
David desired for God to take notice that what he was praying was from one who trusted God for his life. He shares with God that their relationship was solid and that many were out to take him captive.
As I thought on the person who had been robbed that day, I wondered if they knew God and then my heart grew sad. Why did this happen? How will this person react when they see how they have been robbed?
“From the wicked that oppresses me, from my deadly enemies, who compass me about.” Psalm 17:9 Isn’t that the condition of our world today, God’s people are surrounded by the deadly enemies of this day. They are all around us seeking to steal, rob, and destroy what God has given.
David had faith in God for in Psalm 17:8 “Keep me as the apple of the eye; hide me under the shadow of thy wings.” I want to be the apple of God’s eye even if the enemy may oppress me at times. I felt so oppressed after that experience and as I went to the mall with my granddaughter the picture played out in my mind. But I was reminded by God’s Spirit to trust him and put these memories in his hands.
I love feeling hidden in God’s wings; there is no better place to be. I love the fact no matter what may disturb my soul, I am one of his children and he will set guard over my life.
God is my protector no matter what circumstances I may face and today I thank God that he hears my cries. Pray for those who are hurting in the next few weeks. Pray for those who have had their very life shattered by the enemy.
Psalm 17:15 “As for me, I will behold thy face in righteousness: I shall be satisfied, when I awaked, with thy likeness.” Pray this wonderful verse...
